Schools & colleges
For many years now, Secret Valley has welcomed groups of children to Cobbs Cross Farm from schools, colleges and youth groups. Much more than 'a day in the country', a visit has a distinct educational theme which meets the demands of the national curriculum.
In learning about the farm itself, all ages are catered for with an experience which provides opportunities to study crops, animals and ecosystems up close, as well as the surrounding wildlife and nature:
- two freshwater lakes with different and distinct environments: one is stocked with trout; the other is home to a crayfish colony;
- herd of 180 beef cattle and calves
- flock of 8,000 free range chickens
- crops of organic potatoes, hay and corn
- two vineyards with four varieties of grapes producing red, white and rosé wines
- Christmas tree plantations with several different species
There are four distinct areas across the farm for children to visit. Using a mobile classroom which moves with the children through the day, all or any areas can be studied in a classroom environment.
Some schools choose one off study visits of the whole farm, while other classes visit at regular intervals throughout the year allowing children to see the farm through different seasons. Since farm visits can be adjusted, we invite teachers to visit in advance so that together we can create a bespoke programme that best meets any educational requirements. Please contact us directly to discuss your school's requirements.
Many schools are regular visitors to the farm, including Millfield School, Taunton School, Wellington School, Clifton College and Robert Blake Science College. We welcome visits from both private and state schools and academies, college, youth groups and community groups.
Catering and accommodation
Visiting school groups usually bring a picnic, which can be enjoyed out in the fields. Groups are also welcome on wet weather days to eat in our covered barn.
Overnight accommodation is also available for up to 38, staying in heated wooden wigwams or Mongolian yurts.
