Secret Valley Vineyard
The lush hilly landscape means this part of Somerset is perfect for growing grapes and there are five different varieties grown here: pinot noir, rondo, orion, solaris and reichensteiner. If you think English wines aren't up to much, then think again. It's worth noting that in 2011 an English Rosé wine was declared the best in the whole world at the International Wine Challenge. As temperatures soar and the climate dries, you'll find more and more vineyards in the south west of England.
The first vineyard was planted in 2008 and produced its first true crop in 2010. The success of the grapes means that a second vineyard has also been planted recently, so now there are four acres of vines.
Secret Valley produces red, white and rosé varieties and you're invited to taste all three for yourself as part of our Vineyard tour.
The Wine Shop is open every Sunday between 11am and 4pm where you can try the wines for yourself (charged at £3.50 per person) and purchase your favourites to take home. If interested in wine tasting at other times, please contact us so we can arrange for someone to assist you.
Vineyard and farm tour
A great tour for lovers of wine and the countryside it comes from, and a one off in Somerset! The tour begins with coffee and biscuits in the wine shop where your guide introduces the story behind the vineyard and the five grape types grown here. The guide then escorts the group through the recently planted vineyard, which is followed by a tour of the farm in an open top seated trailer. The tour introduces you to each of the farm's diversification enterprises.
Back at the farm, there's wine tasting and a chance to purchase bottles to take home.
Adults £10. No concession for children. The tour needs to be pre-booked and is subject to a minimum of 10 people, weather permitting.
Self-guided tours
There are two walks to enjoy around the farm if you fancy a stroll around Somerset's spectacular countryside on a Sunday. Just pop into the wine shop any time between 10am and 4pm to pick up directions and then you're free to amble at your own pace. Staying guests are welcome to wander at any time during their stay.
